D&D Expeditions!

D&D Expeditions starts next month in the Washington, DC area, and we need DMs!

On Saturday, September 13, we’ll be running two tables at Dream Wizards in Rockville, MD, and on Saturday, September 27, we’ll be running four tables at the Game Parlor in Chantilly, VA. Needless to say, we’ll need some judges. The adventures we’ll be running are the first and second adventures, DDEX1-1: Defiance in Phlan and DDEX1-2 Secrets of Sokol Keep. The events are on the calendar but are not yet available for player signup. (You may not sign up for an event more than 6 days before it occurs.)

In the meantime, we need to recruit DMs. Please contact Tanya (laohu1@yahoo.com) and me (rob@syndcon.net) to volunteer. If you DM a game, you’ll get a reserved spot to play in the other slot for that day, and under Adventurers’ League rules, you’ll receive player XP for each slot you DM. Make sure to include the following in your email:

1. Which adventure(s) you want to run?
2. On which day(s) and slot(s) would you like to run those adventures?
3. If you’re DMing only one game, do you want to play in the other slot on that same day?

Note that we may change the schedule based on the responses we get for DMs. Besides the obvious — not enough DMs means the tables don’t go — there’s an added issue. The adventures are best played in order; however, that makes it harder to find DMs. Many people won’t have the time to prepare two adventures for the same weekend, so if the majority of our DMs are capable of running one adventure each, we’d have to allow them to run that single adventure during both slots. This would change the schedule such that we’d be running each adventure at half of our tables for each slot. That is, instead of

Dream Wizards, 9/13
Morning session: 2 tables of DDEX1-1
Afternoon session: 2 tables of DDEX1-2

we’d have

Dream Wizards, 9/13
Morning session: 1 table of DDEX1-1, 1 table of DDEX1-2
Afternoon session: 1 table of DDEX1-1, 1 table of DDEX1-2

The practical effect would be that half of our players may have to play the adventures out of order. If you have any ideas on how to get around this issue, your comments are welcome, but remember that without DMs, we don’t get to play at all.

To end this posting on a brighter note, below are some 5e resources links for you. Thanks to Mike Shea and Teos Abadia for originally posting these.

Also, if you’re getting this and not involved with the venues we support but would like us to host your schedule, please let me know (rob@syndcon.net). We can’t accommodate everyone, but we’ll do the best we can. As long as you accept certain reasonable restrictions, it’s free.

As always, happy gaming!

It allows a DM to quickly print a list of spells to supplement the 5e monster stat blocks that don’t provide descriptions for spell-like abilities. You don’t have to look up spells in a source book during a game; everything you need will be right at your fingertips.)
